I agree with Bill O'Reily? Is Hell Freezing Over?

Ok, so many of you probably are very suprised that me, a rather moderate-democrat leaning-person would agree with Bill O'Reily. Now, I do not regularly go onto the Fox News website, so I may actually agree with him more...but I generally find myself very disgusted with most everything he says. Therefore, I am extremely suprised that I am writing this.

I must add on caveat here, I am extremely interested in American-Iranian relations. I know, I may be the only one you know who would say that out loud. O'Reily states that most Americans are relatively unaware of the situation with Iran...that may be the thing on which I disagree with him the most. Other than that, he argues we must make some sort of a deal with Iran to end their nuclear (weapon) program. Semi-enriched uranium is pretty much incapable of being made into a bomb, and is very useful for energy. Fully enriched uranium is where we run into trouble.
I think we must make a deal, a military strike is not going to be productive for many reasons.
1. Diplomatically it would hurt us.
2. We probably do not know about all the sites in Iran working on enriching uranium.
3. It would only harden the Iranians resolve to enrich uranium and get a nuclear weapon.
4. It would most likely result in Iranians attacking Israel, and further destablizing a region we are attempting to bring democracy to. Fledgling democracies do not work too well in unstable areas....

Likewise, a nuclear Iran would not be great for us.
1. Many say that a region wide arms race would be on.
2. Iran would be openly defying a treaty they signed, which must be seen as an act of aggression toward the United States.
2a. Many see their attempts at getting a nuclear weapon as an act of balancing (trying to balance power with the United States in the region). Think about it...Iran's neighbors are: Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan...all either having large amounts of U.S. troops...or are 'strong' U.S. allies. If you are not a fan of the U.S. wouldn't that concern you too. Furthermore, we have treated North Korea much more 'respectfully' since they showed the capabilitiy of having nuclear weapons.
3. They would be more beligerent in the region...since they can deter our actions easier.
4. Their president is seen as crazy by many...routinely declaring that Israel must be wiped off the face of the earth.

In other words, a deal would be the best option. Iran has been wanting entrance into the WTO...an organization we happen to have a large amount of influence in. If we offer them entrance...for suspending their program...it would at least create the possibility of dialogue. The Iranians agreed to send 'most' of their enriched uranium to Russia so we can further discussion over the next few months...it looks like Bill and I were onto something....
